Black panthers / Black Power
Inanc, Zara, Julian and Chloe

The Black Panther’s were established to fight the U.S. government. Their main aim was to bring diversity to the black people. Both white man and black man could be equal. Many of the black people did what the white men said, and didn’t really have a say for themselves, except for the black panthers. For this the black panthers were said to be rebels, many accused there fighting techniques as those of gorilla warfare

Black Panther Party was a major political organization in the United States. The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense was founded in Oakland in California, in 1966 by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale. A main goal was to protect African Americans from police actions that many blacks considered brutality. In time, the Black Panthers dropped the "Self-Defense" label from their name. The organization became more of a Marxist-Communist group that favoured violent revolution, if necessary, to bring about changes in society. The Black Panthers weren't about empowering themselves but trying to empower their community and I think in that case they did help to empower people they ran a number of programs to help people such as a program to feed many poor school children, a health class, a drug/Alcohol Abuse Awareness Program, an employment program and a lot more programs that helped the community. By 1968 they had 5,000 across America but that is hard to say since there a lot of people who said they where panthers but weren't. The ten point program was a document that insisted on “land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice and peace” among various other demands including the exemption from military services for African-Americans. This was essentially, something the party aimed for. It was the goal that they set for themselves. This was important to them because they thought that everyone should have access to these things.

They helped those in the communities because they felt that many people living in the inner city were being ignored by the government and they protested and fought against police brutality, and injustice. The very initial reasoning's for the organization of the Black Panther Party was to show that they were for the community. They were a group of Black militants that started because they felt that the US government began to neglect the Black community and our rights. They fought against police brutalities that occurred (and still do, regardless), oppression, and unjust laws. So instead of waiting and waiting, they stood up and resorted to the last thing, violence. All for their rights. The BPP really started out with a positive reason, but it is very unfortunate how their reputation has been slurred
